PROJECT ENTERPRISE - A POTTED HISTORY

Once upon a time in leafy Surrey, England...
As a result of being invited to Gary and Franky Brooker's 40th wedding anniversary at Kenny Jones' Hurtwood Park Polo Club in deepest Surrey, I stopped by a famous muso's pub on the way I used to frequent in the 70's that is near the entrance to Eric Clapton's house...where he and George Harrison wrote "Here Comes the Sun." Blonde Alexe who was with a group of friends started chatting to me---Alexe was the widow of Derek Meddings, a top FX supervisor whose credits include Superman, Batman, Goldeneye, Thunderbirds, and loads of other top productions.
Who would have thought, way out here in the boondocks? One of the friends was Tony Robinson, an ardent Trekkie. When he discovered I gave the Starship Enterprise her pearlescent ball gown, it was instant friendship. 4 years later Tony called me up and said there was a huge Star Trek convention being held in London, October 2012, and did I want to see if he could get me an appearance? I said, "Absolutely!"
I spoke to thousands of lovely people over the three day event, and was so moved by the experience, I wrote my book, "Creating the Enterprise." As a result of writing the book, I flew to LA and got back in touch with Richard Taylor and Jim Dow, who I hadn't seen since 1979. We wanted to know where our Enterprise was, and after many blind alleys and lots of digging, I discovered she was auctioned off in severely damaged condition and in private hands.
What a shame. Star Trek was now without it's most critical, revered and loved symbol.
We couldn't let this happen.
Boyd Crompton, of Trekworks in San Antonio said, "Paul, why don't you guys build another Enterprise!!???"
So...here we are. There's much more to the story on the video... Check it out
